Dear all,
To all the new and returning students, thank you very much for signing up to the SOAS Iranian Society at the Freshers Fair a couple of weeks ago! SOAS has long been a hub of Iranian studies, events and other activities in London, so you are at the right place!
We are now close to having established a new committee and structure for the SOAS Iranian Society, and to help kick-start this we will be holding an informal and open 'Meet & Greet' this coming Friday at SOAS (see below for details). This will be a very relaxed and casual social, no awkward formalities! So if you are around on campus this Friday please feel free to drop by!
That aside, I have listed various other Iranian events taking place in London over the next few weeks, which I hope you will find useful!

A very casual and relaxed 'meet & greet' for the SOAS Iranian Society, SOAS History Society, SOAS Vostok Society (Central Asia and the Caucasus) and SOAS Afghan Society.
We'll be providing Iranian tea and sweets (possibly wine too) and the occasion is just an informal gathering for all of you to come in and out as you like and mingle with other SOASians who share a connection or interest in the cultures, societies and study of Iran, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Afghanistan.
You will need a SOAS or University of London ID to enter the building.
* This social is intended only for SOAS students/staff/alumni and students/academics from other universities. It is not open to the wider public.

Kayhan Kalhor is an internationally acclaimed virtuoso on the kamancheh. A native of Iran, he was a musical prodigy who travelled around the country to perform and explore the music of its many regions. Internationally, he has appeared as soloist with a variety of symphony orchestras and ensembles, and is co-founder of renowned ensembles Dastan, Ghazal and Masters of Persian Music.

Film Screening: A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night is the first Iranian Vampire Western. Situated in the ghost town of Bad City, it tells the tale of a black robed beauty prowling the streets at night in search of prey. When she meets lost and compassionate Arash, the stage is set for a thriller unlike any other where hunting and ritualistic patterns by moonlight open the stage for discussions on gender and retribution, drug abuse and spirituality.
The screening will be followed by a conversation between Moon Festival Artistic Director, Livia Filotico.

The London Iranian Film Festival is an annual, independent film festival held in London. It is organised by a non-polotical film-focused organisation called UKIFF which aims to provide a platform for Iranian Cinema in the UK. The festival acts as an exhibition to provide further access to Iranian films that would otherwise not reach the silver screens in London. Launching in 2010 by Pejman Danaie, this is the only festival in the UK that is dedicated to Iranian Independent Cinema and showcases films that consistently explore Iranian culture and identity.
