Dear all,

I hope you all enjoyed your Welcome/Freshers fortnight and are now all settling into the new SOAS year!

We'll be holding our 'meet & greet' this coming Wednesday where we will be providing Iranian tea and sweets (possibly wine too - although we cant guarantee that due to wine not being covered by the SU's reimbursement policy). The format will be just an informal gathering for all of you to come in and out as you like and mingle with other people at SOAS who share a connection or interest in Iran and Iranian culture! They'll be no speeches or formalities, this is just going to be a very relaxed and casual meet-up!

The details are as follows:

SOAS Iranian Society 'Meet & Greet'

Date: Wednesday, 10 October
Time: 18:30
Room: 116 (1st floor, SOAS main building)

You will need a SOAS or University of London ID to enter the building. Please also be aware if you are from outside of SOAS that this particular social is intended only for SOAS students/staff/alumni and students from other universities. It is not open to the wider public.

In addition to that, there is also a special event this week on the Iranian economy taking place on Tuesday afternoon:

Panel Discussion on the Iranian Economy and Economic Sanctions

Date: Tuesday, 09 October
Time: 17:30
Room: Khalili Lecture Theatre (KLT)

Speakers: Esfandyar Batmanghelidj (Bourse & Bazaar), Nicholas Hopton (former UK Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran), Kamiar Mohaddes (University of Cambridge)

Organised by: London Middle East Institute (LMEI) at SOAS, International Iranian Economic Association (IIEA) and the Centre for Iranian Studies, SOAS

Have a good everyone and we look forward to seeing many of you on Wednesday!

Best,

Aki Elborzi
