Dear all,

Thank you to those of you that passed by our 'meet & greet' a couple of weeks back!

Below you'll find a number of Iranian events and other things of interest taking place this week and over the next couple of months. In previous years i usually sent out an email like the below on most Sunday evenings, but unfortunately these days im often pressed for time but will try to keep this bulletin going as regularly as i can (they take awhile to put together...). So for this week i've spent some time and listed as much as i can find for now, so i hope there will be something in here that will interest you!

October - November 2018 Issue of The Middle East in London out now

Iran has rarely been absent from the headlines in the past forty years but its recent prominence in the media is beginning to break previous records. It is appropriate, therefore, that this issue of The Middle East in London be devoted to Iran and the challenges it faces, while not losing sight of what is going on in other spheres such as arts and culture.

What’s it worth? European Art at the Persian Court

Date: Monday, 26 November
Time: 17:00 - 18:00
Location: Research Forum Seminar Room, The Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House, Strand, London WC2R 0RN

Early-modern European accounts of the Safavid Court agree on one thing: Persians loved splendour, as much, if not more than their European counterparts. A splendid art collection was the ultimate mark of distinction in the West, so some European visitors to Persia were alarmed to find that upwardly-mobile Persians seemed to care more for flashy things, like solid gold horse bridles, than they did for European works of art. No one was more shocked than Louis XIV’s ambassador, Pierre Victor Michel.
