I just saw on RCGroups that the 2026 New Year's Day World Cup postal contest is on!

Look it up on RC Groups, in Sailplane Events.

We've done this before.  Register by posting in RC Groups, then show up at BFP.  I will bring a thermos of hot chocolate.  Fly until your brains run out your nose, then record (and post on RCGroups) your longest time.  Longest time for that day wins.  Wins what? you ask.  Who cares? say I.

There are three classes, the caveat being that contestants are "restricted" to wood sailplanes.

Here is the additional challenge: the Phoenix Model Glider Club is already planning to meet as a club and compete.  I want to challenge PMGC.  We total all our longest flight times; they record theirs.  Most accumulated flight time wins.  Bragging rights then ensue.

How about it?  Launch when you are ready, not before.  Self-time.  No landing points.  Unlimited re-lights.  Self-launching airplanes allowed, of course.  What could go wrong?  If we take up the PMGC challenge, I will be responsible for collating flight times and submitting.

New Year's Day.  Come on, it's already on your calendar.

Yours, Greg

Hey, all you guys!

We have a challenge from the Phoenix Model Glider Club: the sum of ALL their longest flight times, versus the sum of ALL our longest flight times.  That means the every flier we get to the field contributes to our effort.

See you there.

Afraid not, Dan.  Their two top guys together, out-flew all six of us!  Then, there were all the others.

Sorry.

Their winter soaring conditions are usually better than ours.

It would be difficult to best their scores.
