I am putting together the Astra 2m electric glider from the auction we had at the Domingo Baca senior center.  Does anyone have some transparent blue Ultracote scraps I could use to make a few small repairs?  I hate to have to buy a whole roll.

Dan:

I have a small amount - in fact, in a handy bag with your name on it!  I got it from you.

I am not free to travel today, but will be home.

Yours, Greg

Putting together the 2 m electric Astra has been a lot of fun, with lots of little details to work out.

The best part has been learning a few new words of the Czech language like "mikrobalony"!

It's perfectly obvious. "mikrobalony' is the Slovakian term for "condoms for male toy poodles"

That reminds me of a question a first time builder of a Comet stick and tissue FW-190 kit asked me in 1971 when I was a clerk at Duke City Hobbies.  He brought the plans in to show me an arrow that pointed at the bulges at the 5 and 7 o'clock positions on the engine cowl.  They were labeled as "Bulbous Defastacators".  His question was "What is a Bulbous Defastacator?"  Absolutely unfazed by the question I answered with, "It's a bulbous protrusion into the airstream increasing the drag of the airframe thus slowing or defastacating the aircraft".  Much to my surprise the gentleman shook his head in agreement, thanked me and turned to walk out of the shop.  Those of you that know me well will have too immediate thoughts.  One is that Stan isn't known to lie, the second is that no way is he that fast of thought in a situation like that.  Obviously some draftsman at the Comet company had a sense of humor.  Some time after that I was drawing up a set of plans for a Control Line Goodyear racer.   I had one comment labeled Notes: A Treble Clef on a staff with some quarter notes followed.  Not sure what the tune was?? 😁

And don't knock the value of microballoons.  I was a co-author of a paper in graduate school--one of my most cited--in which, thanks to my hobby interest (to the disdain of my advisor), my major contribution to the project was......
microballoons.

I once made a plane all transparent blue and soon learned I couldn't see it in a cloudless New Mexico sky. But blue is my favorite color anyway. Looks nice.

Hopefully the transparent white bays will help, Bob.  Here is the picture of it all finished and ready for someone to toss it over tall grass!

Hmmm. With the size of those white partches... you should be fine to 150ft! :-)
