Hi All,

So, and I'm sure you saw her recent correction, Susan closed BFP for both days this weekend.  Sorry for the last minute detail!

Weekend Update:  The Balloon Fiesta Park is CLOSED this Saturday and Sunday.

BFP Weekly Forecast:  Weather Underground 10 Day

Daily Reminders:  Don't forget to visibly hang your Gate Card from your rearview mirror while you are at the Park.  Check the 2 new Runway Barriers/Signs for right lane position to block each end of the Runway.  Do respect the Balloonists if they are up and give them full airspace.  Watch for and avoid other park users.  Refrain from flying in the airspace above them.  Remember that the airspace over the Golf Training Center (Driving Range) is a NO FLY ZONE.  Clean up your Area or Crash Site when you're finished, as well as all broken prop blades.  If you see a broken prop, even if it is not yours, please pick it up and throw it away.  Thanks.

Flight Awareness:  Stand 25' back from the Runway to allow for a Safety Margin and so all Pilots have a clear visual perspective.  All turns from the Runway shall be away from the Pits.  (Always fly to the west of the Runway over D6)  The prevailing wind directs the Flight Pattern.  (North Wind effects a Left Pattern and South Wind effects a Right Pattern at BFP)  Call out Take-Offs, Landings, and any Maneuvers that could affect another Flyer.  Use common sense if performing an unusual Flight Plan or Maneuver.  Communicate with others if flying large or fast aircraft.  Try to stay north of Key Grab (E/W road) so as not to interfere with the gliders.  Unless everyone agrees otherwise, Micros may NOT be flown in or from the pits while others are using the Runway.  Micros may use the D7 grass to the north or south of the North Blue Awning when the Runway is occupied.  Refer to Protocol.

Tuskegee Airman Request:  Victor Butler is turning 100 years young.  He is one of the last remaining Tuskegee airman and has just one small request on his birthday... send him a card!  Victor W. Butler, C/O Gary Butler, PO Box 3523, Cranston, RI 02910.  Let's show Mr. Butler that we Albuquerque Flyers have his back!  Tell him Duke City Electric Flyers loves the Tuskegee Airmen.  Maybe show him what you've been flying lately, eh?  Individual cards please.

Memorial Day Fly-In:  Monday, May 30th.  BFP.  Anything allowed in the air.  It does not have to be a warbird.  Altho, warbirds will have priority!  Bring your own food, drink, chairs, shade.  Remember, you must have AMA and a Gate Card to get into BFP.  Warbirds celebrating service men and women rule the day!

Cheers,

Greg Rullman
President
Duke City Electric Flyers

Hint of the Week:  First things first!  When you get a new plane, first make sure it's all securely bolted/screwed together, yes, even on the stuff that already comes that way.  Use Lock-Tite on any metal to metal bolts/fasteners.  Use a small drop of glue such as white glue or the clear foam glues that come with many of the kits for screws or non-metal fasteners.  Do this for most all connections even if not in the instructions.  Check important items such as motor mounts and retracts.  Be sure to remove ball links before securing that little ball screw, if you do.  Otherwise you might have a locked up link.  Exceptions would be wing bolts and the like.  Very secure screws in plastic and/or resin can usually be trusted.  Any easy spinning screw/bolt is highly suspect.  Secure it.

Also, check that blind nuts in plastic forms are engineered and installed correctly.  Sometimes the designers get this wrong and engineer an insert blind nut the wrong way.  It should not be held only by glue and/or tension.  It should pull against and be locked in place by the plastic form itself.  In other words, if you pulled the bolt by its head, the insert nut should be held by the plastic form and not be able to break tension and slide out the way it went in.  More glue is not the best way to fix this problem.  And the fix for this might not always be obvious.  However, usually, a longer bolt and another nut on the backside can work out fine.  This problem occurs mostly on tail assemblies where such a design is a big no no.  I wonder why!

It's not fun to find out after the first few flights that something has worked loose and you have come to discover fasteners missing.  Many times these are hard to replace if they are part of a unit such as retracts because they would not be sold as a separate set.  Good, secure flying!

Hi All,

FYI, Balloon Fiesta Park is now a location for the evacuees from the NM fires to park their RV or trailer until they can return to their homes.
This will not impact the field use.

Up coming events at BFP that will cause panel closures.
