Well I had to try it, something simple.  It’s a lot of work, but I think it will be worthwhile.  I have a 2’ x 4’ ceramic tile with a smooth finish.  I lay the cut covering on it with the 4mm overlap, then iron the seams.  I try to get as few wrinkles as possible when laying the sheet of covering on the part.  Then work as normal, just avoid the seam as much as possible when shrinking.  This is Ultracote Lite FWIW.

Covering done.  The 2nd vtail was easier.  Would have been even easier in general if I had made the moving parts one color, not bring the color change across the hinge line. But it looks cool!

Need to go make some control horns and pull springs…
