Thank you for contacting me regarding S. 1392, the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness (ESIC) Act of 2013.

Encouraging energy efficiency in our homes and businesses can help energy consumption, cut costs, and save energy. The American Council for Energy-Efficient Economy estimates that energy efficiency programs could result in 159,000 net new jobs and $20 billion in savings on consumer energy bills by 2030.

The ESIC Act was reintroduced by Senator  Shaheen and Senator Portman. The bill would spur the use of energy efficiency technologies in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors of the economy and includes a variety of tools to reduce barriers for private sector energy users and drive adoption of off-the-shelf efficiency technologies.

I support energy conservation but continue to take a hard look at overreaching federal regulations that do more harm than good. Past energy efficiency legislation has resulted in policies that prevent consumers from deciding which products meet their needs. Washington legislators and regulators must stop acting like they know what's best for American consumers and our economy.

As the Senate considers this legislation, I will keep your thoughts in mind.
