sen blunt reply on government shutdown

Thank you for contacting me regarding the government shutdown and debt limit. I know that the shutdown created hardships, and I share your frustration that this was not a well-considered approach to our fiscal challenges. My preference would have been for Congress and the Administration to reach an agreement on our larger spending issues well before October 1 st— the start of the fiscal year.

 

I voted to re-open the government, prevent default, and protect the spending reductions in the Budget Control Act; however, there is much more work ahead.

 

The federal government spends too much and borrows too much. These must be the two main priorities for Congress until we get our fiscal house in order. Debate priorities, set priorities, and live within our means; that's what American families have to do and what our government must do.

 

I will continue working to find common sense ways to  cut waste and spend taxpayers' dollars more wisely .
