Hi there:

performing my first steps using SOAP4R, i.e. the library that comes
with Ruby 1.8.5 but have stumbled across an issue where I can't set
basic authentication options, which are required to access the WSDL -
even before a proxy/driver is created...

factory = SOAP::WSDLDriverFactory.new(WSDL)

I could only find one other relevant thread but that ended up
addressing authentication on the SOAP message exchange and not fetching
the WSDL.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Harry.

Since dev.ctor.org is down, you can use Google's cache instead. Does a
search like this:
"site:dev.ctor.org basic authentication" yield any useful info?

I wrote down how to do this:

Some of the libraries on dev.ctor.org have new versions, but you should
be able to find them. (dev.ctor.org is up as of right now)

I've added it to dev.ctor.org's soap4r wiki.
