The man noticed that parts of the wall had been dried out slightly by the heat from the fire, and sitting down, started to scoop handfuls of water from the moat to re-moisten the sand before it crumbled. The child, quickly joined him and within moments they had repaired all the damage.

We have been very big on storytelling recently and Cakie is just discovering the world of fairy tales with awe and wonder. She is particularly keen on Sleeping Beauty and Jack and the Beanstalk, so what better to turn this box into than a castle story-telling box?! As with previous DIY projects, this was a collaborative effort with me taking direction from her but stepping in to do the difficult parts, as this is something we hope to use as a toy and tool, not really a piece of art work.
I tore apart another piece of the box to reveal the ridged section inside. I cut this and stuck it onto some wooden blocks to fashion simple print-making tools. Cakie used these to dip into paint and print stones/bricks all over the castle walls. (We painted it in emulsion first- a Farrow & Ball tester pot no less!)
The story starts with the players in Princess Diana's room. Diana say that today she becomes 18, and her parents told her she would be free by then. Then, she decides to take matters into their own hands and attempt to escape the castle themselves. Diana then points to a key on the chandelier, and the players must then use her bed to jump up to the chandelier to grab the key and open the door.
The group then enters a hallway, and they must use a series of levers to open different rooms, while Diana starts remarking about each. The series culminates in a red door to the next section of the castle being opened. The party heads through, and then the door shut, forcing the group to complete the Maze Challenge to survive.
After the test, the knight allows the players to the next room, the entrance of the castle, guarded by the Dragon. Fortunately, it is sleeping, allowing enough time for one player to grab the Sword on the floor before the Dragon wakes up. The player must then decide the outcome of the Endgame.
