Do I need reverse lookups delegated to me?

Ok, so I've done a bunch of reading, and I have come to the conclusion
that my provider (Cyberonic) is unable/unwilling to delegate my ip
addresses to me for reverse lookup. There is already a ptr record for
my ip address, so what is the downside of just doing forward domain
lookups? Problems with sending mail? I know that some mail servers
don't like it if your mail server's ip address doesn't reverse map to
your domain. But will this work?
