I'd like to thank David in advance for the superb Installation Guide. Thank you for the time and effort you've put in toward making my life simpler with your excellent directions.

I've just been working through the newest installation guide for Snort 2.9.0.5 and have run into a snag.

On page 8, after compiling snort and creating the database, the directions are:

"Now we need to edit the snort.conf configuration file:

sudo vi /usr/local/snort/etc/snort.conf"

My install did not result in creating a /usr/local/snort/etc folder containing the snort.conf.

I do have a /usr/local/snort with the following folders, bin  lib  share  src, but no etc folder.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

Never mind...

When I continued with the installation of the Rules the "/usr/local/snort/etc" folder mysteriously appeared with the appropriate conf files.

Yes, I believe snort.conf is included in the ruleset tarball.
