Special bonus for essay 1 (including and beyond e1.b)
The class average for e1.1 was 3.1, a little lower than usual.
Students have already been informed that they may follow the essay 1
instructions with a 4th refutation (using the Max Boot essay Does
America need an empire? http://berkeley.edu/news/berkeleyan/2003/03/19_boot-transcript.shtml),
and the lowest score will be dropped for averaging the essay 1 score.
To further encourage students to attempt the optional bonus, the
following incentive is offered:
Any students who complete all four parts of essay 1 (e1.1, e1.2, e1.3,
e1.b) will not only have the lowest score dropped for score averaging,
but will receive additional 1 point added to the average score.
