Chapter 4 The Outsiders

--US should be less like Cleopatra and more like Antony

Mark Antony strong and knowledgable
-- USA's lack of awareness
-- examples: South Carolina beauty pageant, media coverage, FAIR
(Fairness and Accuracy in Reporting), Larry King Live episode focusing
on Hilary Clinton

Cleopatra exhibits childlike behavior, ignorant and unaware
-- guide for Americans to act more appopriate in foreign countries
-- anti-American sentiment at all time high, especially towards George
W. Bush Iraq policies

-- Found chapter interesting and timely, specifically with the
upcoming election coming

--A good source for other articles on this innacuracy in reporting was
FAIR; would love to examine it more, could look up specific amounts of
time things are reported on in the news

Conclusions
-- many Americans complete lack of awareness of the world outside
them

-- Changes Americans could make
-- further education, reading more on foreign affairs, become aware
of what's going on in the country, media could start reporting
differently getting people more involved in current affairs, not just
entertainment

• Outline for Presentation

o My essay examined and discussed the current climate of immigration
and border control within the United States. It also looked at the
different opinions that Americans hold towards both legal and illegal
immigration as well as how the opinions of American citizens influence
our government’s actions.

• The first part of the essay briefly discussed the purpose of U.S
immigration policies.
• It went on to touch on the point that many times American
corporations and businesses do not live up to those ideals, much like
an irresponsible Antony doesn’t live up to his duties while in Egypt
with Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra.
• It later spoke on the prospective of different parts of the American
population. More specifically pro-immigration groups such as Border
Angels and anti-immigration groups such as NOFEAR and CCC.

• One of the final points thoroughly examined how the American
government deals with the opposing requests of its citizens, and it’s
interests as a nation

• I concluded that the American government can at times deal with
border control and illegal immigration in an irresponsible way, and
that there is definitely a lot more room for improvement on the issue,
like spending the money that they use in deportation programs, (which
at times result in those being deported only attempting and at times
succeeded their illegal reentrance into the country) on making
conditions in the countries from which the immigration problem stems
from a more bountiful place.

The reason I chose the topic of immigration and bordde control, was
because of my own personal heritage. Coming from a family which
immigrated into the United States motivated me to learn more about the
technicalities of the system, and the situation as a whole.

I deffinaltey learned more about how different groups view this issue,
and more about what the governemtn does concerning the issue, Some of
the websites on ani-immigration were really shockinh concerning the
amount of member that belong to certain groups, and their truly vile
opinions.

If I ahd one million dollars, I would us eit to do research on what
countires that hold the highest percentage of immigrants in the state,
and try to find out what exactly it is that they’re lacking.
