Hello everyone,

I downloaded the snofyre installation pack from TRUD and have
completed all the steps in the Installation Manual except chapters 9 &
10. Bin, Docs, Uninstaller, Configuerator and Data import folders all
appear, but I cannot find the Installation folder.

Would I have to repeat any of the MySQL steps if I download the pack
again (eg, would the data imported into my snofyre account be lost)?

I had alot of difficulties with root user password problems in MySQL
(found loads of people have had similar problems through Googling) and
had to override my netbook's maximum screen resolution to see some of
the buttons I needed to press in MySQL Workbench. I'd rather not have
to go through the Workbench steps again as I could not solve the root
user problems myself and overriding maximum screen resolution is
risky.

I am a PhD research student with City University's Centre for Health
Informatics. I am hoping to do some end user testing with snofyre.

If anyone has an ideas as to why I am unable to find the snofyre
installation folder, I would be grateful.

Hi Pam,

Few things to note:

  • You have to complete steps in Chapter 9 to complete installation of Snofyre.
  • If you have already installed, configured and imported data into MySQL workbench, but did not complete steps in Chapter 9, then you just have to restart installation and skip to the steps described in Chapter 9.
  • The 'Installation_Folder' is the folder that you've installed Snofyre to. Typically this is C:\Program Files\Snofyre.
From your description, it looks like you have succesfully installed Snofyre, since the bin, data import and other folders appear. If this is correct, then you should be able to launch Snofyre using the Snofyre.exe file under 'bin' folder. See note on Page 74 on how to launch it on your operating system.

Hope this helps... :)

Cheers,
Jay

Thanks Jay.  I obviously didn't know what a bin folder is.  I took the instructions in your manual too literally and was looking for INSTALLATION_FOLDER.  I've managed to open the software now, but have not seen the screen on page 66 of the installation manual.

Sorry to be asking such basic questions.  Hopefully, they will get more interesting in the future :)

Cheers,
Pam

Pam,

Sorry I missed your message. Did you manage to get your Snofyre
installation sorted? I generally find that when running on Windows 7,
you need to right click the 'Snofyre.exe' and select 'Run as
administrator' as the way to get Snofyre working. If you still have
issues, please zip up your 'logs' folder and post it here? You'll find
the 'logs' folder at

INSTALLATION_FOLDER\bin\logs

Cheers,
Jay

Hi Jay,

Thanks for checking in.  I managed to open Snofyre and also reinstall (Snofyre lite) to reach the IZ pack screen on page 66.  I ticked all the boxes that asked whether I'd done everything correctly.  Alas, it's looking increasingly as if I will have to start from scratch as a data validation error message popped up when I tried to log in.

I gave Snofyre lite a different name/folder so as not to disturb the data I had already imported into MySQL Workbench.  Not sure whether this was unwise.

I am thinking of trying to bypass using the Workbench and set Snofyre up using a MySQL account I have with City University.  This is due to not wanting to revisit the problems I had with the root user password and having to override my max screen resolution.  I will need to refresh a bit on MySQL and/or mooch off a fellow student who is better a programming than I am.  Do you have any instructional materials that bypass Workbench?

I've attached what is hopefully a zip version of the log.  Happy reading!

Cheers,
Pam

Pam,

From your log files, it looks like there was an issue with your
Snofyre installation. I'd recommend the following steps:

1. Delete Snofyre's INSTALLATION_FOLDER. Typically C:\Program Files
\Snofyre
2. Rerun the Snofyre installer and install Snofyre. You wont have to
re-do any of the MySQL bits.

If you continue to have issues, please post a message here cos there
are other UK based people monitoring this list. I think me being in
Singapore does not help matters much!

Cheers,
Jay

Thanks Jay.  I have deleted the Installation folder and reinstalled Snofyre.  I am still getting the error message: "Cannot connect to MySQL using the given the parameters" after ticking all the boxes as noted in chapter 9.

Could it be that I am entering the wrong password?  I'm pretty sure it is 1 of 2 I am trying, but not sure how to check.

Any other ideas?

- Pam

Pam,

One way to verify that you are using the correct password and username is to check under the 'Users and Privileges' tab in MySQL Workbench. You can reset your password from the same place.

Jay

Thanks Jay.  I've just reset my password.  I'm still getting the same error message.

I'm willing to head up to London (Singapore is a bit far) if there's someone there who might be willing to take a look at my installations, etc.  I also know of some freely available software (Team Viewer) that would enable you to access my computer if that is appropriate.

Sorry to be a 'problem child'.

Cheers,
Pam

Hi Jay,

This has not solved the problem.  I have a limited amount of time to complete my PhD as I am just finishing my 3rd year.  I would really like to use Snofyre for my project as I think it is intended for use by clinicians and/or clinical coders.  I would be grateful if you have other suggestions to solve the parameters problem.

Thank you for your time in assisting me,
Pam

Hi Pam,

In terms of saving both your time and mine, its easier if I talk to you on Skype… :) I'll mail you my Skype ID separately. Please note that I am 7 hours ahead of your time… :)

It'll also be helpful if I could see you screen, so I can see what is actually happening. We can use screen sharing software (e.g. Mikogo - free; http://www.mikogo.com/) for that.

Cheers,
Jay
