hi sniper team,
what is the different cache coherence protocols that sniper can simulate ?
i know that intel use MESIF
and AMD use MOESI

as you know can sniper simulate these two protocols ??

 regards
Aiesha

Hi Aiesha,

Sniper supports MSI, MESI and MESIF. MOESI is not implemented.

Regards,
Wim

does this mean that sniper cant simulate AMD multicore processor

or as your experience,   there is a probability for me to  implement its features??

I don't know what experience you have ;-) But coherence protocols in general are pretty tricky so it's not easy, to get it working reliably probably will take several weeks or a few months.

It depends what level of detail you expect. Sniper does not have cycle-accuracy for any processor, and if you want to see the difference between MESIF and MOESI, you'll either need to implement MOESI yourself or use another simulator that has support for it out of the box. But if you just want to look at core count, frequency, etc, then -- depending on your use case -- Sniper may be close enough.

Regards,
Wim

Dr wim
in fact i want to compare cache coherence protocols and connection networks and memory hierarchy designs
the other features like freq and core numbers are not critical differences
and now i am in the middle of my thesis,
if sniper cant simulate these three important features i may go to search about another simulator
or try to add these abilities to sniper
but i am not professional in programming or doing such things.

Hi, I am a student doing a project. I want to implement MOESI in sniper. I have only the experience of configuring it with different core counts to see the effect of parallel computing.
Because of time limited, I want to just focus on that between 2 levels without going to directory. Do you have some advice for me?
Thanks.
