There is no auto loot. Autoloot would be a HORRIBLE thing. If you loot something you want and it takes up too much room and want to jettison it to make room for something you do want, there is a VERY lengthy delay between when you can jettison stuff from your cargohold (ie. you cannot do so repeatedly in a short time frame). Also, autoloot would be a dream come true for some botters.

No, there is no autoloot on iRO or any other official RO (I'd argue that the requirement that you spend time to pick up loot was considered a balancing factor - certainly, with traditional leveling, your exp/hr will be 10-50% lower if you pick up all the loot manually). There is the Greed skill, which is a blacksmith quest skill - Greed costs 10sp, and picks up every item in a 5x5 square centered on you (instant cast). The Heroic Backpacks allow any class to use Greed while wearing one (as well as being generally an epicly good item).

where is this heroic backpack aquired? or is it a single use item...some form of autoloot would surely make playing garbage man less frustrating....not having it to deter bots clearly isnt the reason, as the last time i was around they ruled the world.

ok....i suppose i should explain my noobish exterior but seriously....where do lucky box's and anniversary boxes come from? are they Kafra purchase items?...somewhat side-note...how does one get the participants request box. no idea where boxes actually come from o.o...the games rather large

edit - i know events are limited time only and hard to miss when they're around. usually a green bubble saying event over em, so lucky box doesnt need an answer o.O

Allods Online has a feature like this, the so-called loot-pet, and you can even teach it to loot resource nodes (so if we had it here, then when a Scavenger took down a heavy droid, the companion would be tied up looting and then scavenging).

Something to think about (not saying no, just that you need to think about this one): what happens if I'm in a ranged fight with a group, and there's another group just by the first. All the foes from the first group are dead and lootable, so good old Corso runs off to loot them. Does he aggro the second group?

And no, they might well be next to each other, or the other might be one of those patrolling strongs that will walk through the middle of a firefight and ignore it as long as there aren't any AoEs going on, and as long as you and your companion are both out of his aggro range. (So Corso is a bad example, as he jumps in and fights up close and personal. Perhaps my Commando and Elara or Jorgan might be a better example.)

I'm not saying the possibility of this sort of trouble is a reason to not implement the thing, just that it has to be taken into account and a decision made, and that whatever they decide (particularly if they decide to have the companion really over there where the dead foe is, aggroing anything over there), someone will squawk endlessly on the forums about it.

Companions already engage random people in combat if a pack of mob is between them and the gathering nodes. Their path finding doesn't "allow" shortcuts like jumping on crates and such, so they always go for the fastest route by walking. Auto loot wouldn't be much different because it would use the same path finding mechanics. Actually, it would be even less frustrating than when they go to gather materials as the dead mobs are usually behind you and not in front of you. How can you engage someone standing 100mt from you if the pack of mobs the companion would be able to loot is 100mt backwards in the opposite direction? Only situation this may happen is when you're in close quarters like inside a building which are not instanced and enemies can respawn. But that wouldn't be a big issue either as most of the times, unless you're a stealth class, you have to keep killing mobs to advance further down the buildings for either bonus or standard quests anyway, so..

The easiest to implement this and not have people cry about engaging random mobs, is to use the exact same mechanic of gathering nodes. Right click once on on the lootable mobs and your companions move to collect the drops. He only moves when ordered to and not by him/her/itself. So, instead of an auto loot, a semi-auto loot.

The system in Allods works like that, except that it is a cash shop purchase to enable it, and another cash shop purchase to add resource gathering.(1) There is a semi-cute animation of a little magpie / fairy / goblin that zooms out to grab the stuff, and it works even during combat. So a little microdroid that zoomed out and grabbed stuff as loot became lootable would be cool. Of course in groups, when you had a big fight, the screen could become littered with loot roll windows.

Botters haven't needed this for over a decade so I don't think it really benefits them that much. There really isn't a bot problem in SWTOR. If you use that logic you wouldn't put anything in a game. What's sad is you are worried about botters. Botters and gold sellers have been in every game and they will be in every game.

Actually BW did the best thing to cut down botters they made it not worth it. Leveling is super easy. Getting gear while leveling is easy. It always amazes me that everyone blames the gold seller and bots for everything wrong in the game. The truth is they msot likely have little to no effect on your ability to play the game.

I would love to see this as well. Looting seems like unnecessary busy work (much like the rest of inventory management). Ultimately, what I would want are two checkboxes in preferences: One that disallows companions to agro against anything that I have not agro'd myself (companions are just "stealthy" or whatever unless the target is aware of me), and another to have the companions auto-loot.

Of course this would all work better if every character just got their own loot (like City of Heroes) instead of fighting each other over it. But It was too late for something like that even before launch :/

That depends a bit on what exactly you mean by "play the game". For someone who wants to, say, gather resources in a zone where there are lots of bots seeking that resource, the presence of the bots is a major issue. (In GW2, for example, this isn't true, as each gatherable resource (trees, herbs, ore) is instanced per-character, so bots can't stop me gathering the resources.) Interesting aside: as I heard it, when Trion had their localization / port of Archeage in invitation-Alpha testing, they on one occasion banned 37,000+ accounts for botting on the alpha test servers.

I don't see a serious bot problem in the game. May be I just play at times when people aren't botting. That being said what you describe has nothing to do with this discussion. The other thing is this idea wouldn't increase or descrease botting so it's neutral on the botting thing. That was my point.

I turned off "loot container when received" so I can loot the containers myself to see what's inside... except now it auto loots the container when I open it from inventory, without showing me what was inside. Why was this not an issue for the jesters reward boxes but is now suddenly an issue for the Jubilee boxes?!!??! I would really like to see what is inside these reward boxes! Why is this DAILY WRIT addon messing with event rewards????? I guess I'll have to turn it off completely for the event(s)...

actually you can auto loot 2 or more items of your choice... 1st, put all necessary items at your inventory including activity toks, some berries and the items you wanna autoloot. then fill it with poring backpack which can be bought from pet groomer at pront, right side of the map... perhaps you know its location.. then after doing so. set @autoloot and farm...farm..farm... XD

its at trader at the left side of main town (fcity) once you go left, you will see a house with the Trader name in it. go inside and look for the Renter NPC. talk to him then click option seed room. (note: you need 3tokens or 100 million zeny to go inside the seed room) once you got your seed room ticket, double click it to go to seed room (tip: put the ticket in your hotkeys then use it to warp inside the seed room) ;)
