Telecom feels that they have let down their online community and think
a charitable donation is a way of giving something back to the wider
community.

There are tens of thousands of charities in New Zealand that are
worthy of Telecom's blunder money. For this reason they've decided to
give their customers the freedom to vote for any charity they wish to
- it's entirely up to us ..... XTRA customers.

The Oxfam Water for Survival Programme is well worth your support.

It is easy...go to this web-site and click on "CLICK TO VOTE"....then
follow the prompts.

Further to Water for Survival, I caught the 60 Minute coverage of
Gareth Morgan and his motorcycling African safari last night. He was
in Tanzania inspecting one of the wells he sponsored. It will save the
women of the village spending all day carrying water from further
afield. Fine, but notice that it was the still the women, not the men,
who were working the pump! Also notice that Mike Roberts had appeared
in the middle of Africa, as if by magic. Would his jet fuel bill have
paid for filters for the water? Global warming anyone?

Yes, we too watched Gareth Morgan last night with great interest.
This is exactly what Water for Survival did and the Oxfam programme
continues to do, but on a much larger scale. WfS had a couple of
projects in Tanzania, but many more in Uganda, Ghana, Kenya, Indai and
Nepal.

Yes, it is still the women operating the pumps, but it is clean water
and they are all the healthier for it!
