Could not resolve dependencies when running cabal install

I'm on macOS Monterey (x64), and installed GHC 9.8.2 not using Homebrew, but with ghcup:
curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -sSf https://get-ghcup.haskell.org | sh

Running ghcup, this is what I have:

ghc 9.8.2

Then I ran these 2 commands to install snap:
$ cabal update
$ cabal install snap snap-templates

Once done, let's create a project (described in http://snapframework.com/docs/quickstart):
$ mkdir snapdemo01
$ cd snapdemo01
$ snap init snapdemo01
$ cabal install

After searching the rest of the dependency tree exhaustively, these were the
goals I've had most trouble fulfilling: bytestring, base, snapdemo01

How to solve this? Perhaps I need to use an older GHC?
