Good day everyone! :-)

I want to start a discussion about some Snabb open source work that will cease
to be funded in 2017. Specifically, I keep an eye on the mailing list and
GitHub issues (conveying questions to experts if I can’t answer them myself),
try to keep GitHub issues and PRs organized and do “garbage collection”, and
draft a release every month. Finally, there is max-next which is the most
responsive upstream branch in the west (ad voice: the latency is
infinitesimal). ;-)

All this work has been kindly funded by Luke for... three years now? (Wow!) It
doesn’t take much time in total (everything except max-next takes <2hrs/mo,
max-next takes ~3hrs/mo, estimated), but I believe it is disproportionately
valuable. Especially for project outsiders, its valuable to have someone react
to their issues (even though everyone is in crunch mode right now). As for
upstream branches, I think the current throughput is appropriate for the
current traffic. Finally, I think its desirable keep the diversity (and not
have Igalia carry all the burden, for instance).

(Related: there is also SnabbBot and SnabbDoc—and their eventual Hydra
replacements—to consider.)

There is no deadline beyond which I will suddenly abandon ship (no worries!).
Still, for the longer term I want to offer…

1) to pass on the torch, and help with the transition

2) to just carry on for a small, flat rate (I enjoy this work, actually)

I would find it wonderful if we could find sponsors for this work! Debate go.
:-)

Cheers,
Max

Howdy!

Just to clarify: You have been doing an awesome job of making releases and maintaining one of the most important upstream branches and I am very happy to be working with you. If you ever decide to spend your time on other things instead then these responsibilities will revert to me and I will chat with the rest of the upstream community about who will be responsible for them going forward. I hope that you will find it is in your interests to continue but I know that professional open source can be a challenge in this respect :).

Cheers!
-Luke

P.S. I highly recommend Max for anybody is looking for an expert Snabb consultant.
