Hi all!

I have been using SMUTHI for a year now. I installed the package in a separate environment with Python v3.9. Today, I received an email from my System Administrator regarding using an old version of MySQL. I figured that the environment where I installed SMUTHI has MySQL v5.7.24 installed, which I believe was installed as a part of the dependencies. My System Administrator is asking me to update MySQL to the latest version 8.4.0, which would be a big jump in version if I update it.

Could anyone please help me by giving me any information on whether I will face any problems if I update MySQL to the latest version? On this note, can I update the whole conda environment without facing any compatibility issues?

Thank you all in advance.

Best regards,
Tanay Paul.

Hi Tanay,

maybe you can first try that in a virtual Conda environment?

Issues arise with newer numpy versions, because Smuthi currently relies on numpy distutils which are not continued. (This can probably be rather easily fixed if somebody has the time to check).

If the upgrade of MySQL implies an upgrade of numpy, I don't know if that will pose a problem with an existing Smuthi installation (setup.py will probably not be run again?)

Sorry that I cannot be of more help. Does anybody else have a hint?

Cheers, Amos

Thanks, Amos, for your valuable comment.

I tried updating that in a separate environment, and it worked perfectly for a test case. Apparently, the update does not give rise to any serious issues. It did not even update numpy.

Thanks for your help and support.

Best,
Tanay.
