Good afternoon smugglers,

I have a MacBook Pro (Late 2013) and the battery has expanded causing the bottom half of the laptop to bow out upwards and downwards so that the keyboard and base are obviously rounded.

What I would like to know is, can the battery be replaced? Is it expensive?

Regards
Philippe

Is that a retina mode? The battery is glued in but can be removed with a hairdryer to warm up the adhesive, and fishing wire under the battery to ‘saw’ out the adhesive. I’ve done it multiple times and, while it leaves blisters on your fingers even through gloves, it works very well. New batteries are around £60 on amazon, ideally with replacement adhesive already installed

Thanks Sam, I’ll check out Amazon. Do I need a special screwdriver to open it up? Yes it is a retina one.

I've also got a MacBook Pro Late 2013, and was trying to work out what screwdriver i needed for it. As it as it seams like each model and year might have different screws.

So yes you'll need a special screwdriver and let us/me know if you work out what spec screw driver worked..

You’ll need a #5 pentalobe for the lower shield and a T6 Torx screwdriver for the battery circuit board. Most replacement batteries come with tools these days. Unlikely to come with fishing wire though.
