Hello everyone

Just a small thing really, but my MBP is a faithful workhorse nearly 7 years young.

Only thing I've noticed lately is whenever I boot (and/or wake from sleep) the fans get very loud as it gets very hot for the first 5mins or so. It then settles down quite happily.

I've attached a screen grab of Activity Monitor if there's any gremlins lurking there anybody can identify?

Thanks

Adam

This is not very helpful but relevant: https://macsecurity.net/view/659-mtlcompilerservice-high-cpu-mac

Do you have a high res background image on your desktop? Something is demanding graphics work. Anything in Accessibility about contrast etc. What OS are you running?

Cheers,

Jason

Thanks, Jason.

I'll have a peruse of that article.

The background image is just a stock Apple wallpaper (not one of the animated or varying ones but just a nice colour!)

Not sure what could be demanding graphics work. Will have a ponder and see what's what. Just now it fired up for literally 3 seconds and then stopped (and never tends to get going again, so it's something on startup).

And I'm running 15.7.2.

Guessing now but is it trying to stream anything to a phone, or running OBS for video editing, anything that might make it go 'crikey, let's throw everything at the graphics to be ready for X'?

Lots of things can be installed that are ready to stream video to a nearby device from the Mac. I can't remember the names of any of them (I think VLC has one though?)

For more troubleshooting, I'd see if a different account on the same machine has the same thing. If not, it's something you have running in the background (even if it does it might be installed for all users).

Cheers,

Jason
