IPad Pro –– how to get rid of pop-up keyboard

Good evening Smuggers,

I hope and pray you are all keeping safe and well.

Does anyone know how I can get rid of the pop-up keyboard on the iPad Pro? As a former PA, I prefer the normal black keyboard. The pop-up one is an annoyance and I'd like to be able to stop it appearing. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
