Clarks scam

Good morning Smuggers

I’ve been scammed by a company posing at Clarks Shoes – I ordered a pair of shoes online for about £36.90 (I attach the a copy of the order acknowledgement). The shoes never arrived and (the official) Clarks can’t help.

I’m happy to write the matter off to experience but my wife thinks I should report the matter. 

Who do you think I should I report it to?

I don’t want to waste busy police time for a scam that probably came from outside this country, but out of interest I’ll phone 101 and see what they say (I’ll report back!).

I was able to report the matter online, via the Kent Police website, so it was easy to do.

Derek,

its theft by fraud so should be reported to the police..but you won’t get it investigated…however, the crime will be loged and included in the mounting internet fraud offences thus reported to police.

Yep, I was put onto the Action Fraud website, it was easy to do and will add to the statistics!

Are to you willing to share how you got caught out?

Did you google Clarks shoes and ended up on a dodgy website or did you get a scam email offering cheap shoes?

All helps to keep up to date with the latest ploys.

Hi Nick

You know what they say, if it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t!

It was a Facebook ad, it looked very convincing. It included the Clarks logo, they had a picture of a particularly attractive pair of shoes and it stated that they were originally priced at something like £90 and were now on special offer at £27 plus p&p.

I attach a screen grab of the (scam) order acknowledgment. The shoes never arrived. 

I contacted Clarks, and attach their reply too.

Thanks Derek. It’s easy to get caught out but that quote is always good to bear in mind . I am now very wary when buying on eBay.

Derek, if you paid by credit card you must tell the card company because your details are free to pass on to anyone and you can have the card reused multiple times before you know. 

I once had my card details used by someone and it was picked up by the card company before I new about it.

The card company will issue you a new card within a couple of days.
