Hi all,

Sorry for another question, but I can’t find a definitive answer online or even in Apple’s forums.

I migrated my Aperture library to Photos years ago. Aperture no longer runs on my current macOS and I’ve also been using iCloud Photos for about the last three years.

I’d like to save the 52GB taken up by my Aperture library if I can. Now, online I know that when migrating from Aperture to Photos the Photos library was hard-linked to the Photos library and though it looked like it was taking loads of space, it actually wasn’t. What I can’t find is someone who says “Now all your photos are stored in iCloud, the Aperture library will not even be hard-linked to your Photos library so delete it and get the space back”!

The last modified dates are November 2017 for Aperture and October 2019 for Photos (even though I updated it last night).

Is anything to be gained from deleting my Aperture library other than tidiness?

Cheers,

Stephen

Move it to an external drive and see if Photos still behaves as normal, then delete if all’s well. Saving 52GB disk space is always good

Before you abandon Aperture you might wish to read this page

I have not tested it yet as I have not moved to Catalina for both hardware and software reasons.

However be aware Apple is probably not keeping up todate with RAW file support into Aperture.
