I updated our Mac mini to Catalina a week ago and so far no issues. The update went smoothly. I had , of course, backed up my system disk before attempting the update. I’d also checked the Legacy Software list, via ‘About this Mac>System Information’ before triggering anything. I did find a lot of apps that I had forgotten about which was useful as it caused me to review whether I might use any of them in the future - nothing jumped out as being likely to use again so some tedious app deleting followed.
By and large I feel positive about the many reworked Apple apps, especially the iTunes replacements. The changes to Reminders being particularly worthwhile as I make extensive use of this in my dotage.
My only suggestion is not to use a hard disk as the system disk for Catalina. Seems incredibly sluggish in use. My quick fix has been an external SSD, ours is credit card size, but realise for MacBook users with a hard disk drive that may not be practical.
With due care and preparation I cannot see why one wouldn’t install Catalina based on my experience.
Regards,
Tony
