What happened in bed this morning!

Good morning smugglers,

This is not exactly a Mac issue but I’m intrigued and kind of worried about this phenomena.

I was in bed this morning reading my newspaper on my iPad and I suddenly lost my Wi-Fi connection. That’s not a drama in itself of course, and after a bit it reconnected. But then I realised that my bed was heating up and that my electric blanket had turned on. When I went downstairs to make a cup of tea my three smart lights had also turned on in the living room.

I can understand the smart lights turning on as they are controlled by the Wi-Fi, but the electric blanket is plugged into the mains with a controlling switch for timing and temperature, one on each side, no connection, as far as I know, with the Wi-Fi.

Can anyone offer any explanation of what might cause this to happen?

Sounds like a very short power cut reset everything - we get those occasionally. Is there anything like an oven clock that got reset and is now flashing? That would explain the loss of wifi as the router would have to restart. Less sure about the blanket!

That’s what I mean, I can understand the router reseting and the smart lights coming on – we also have an Echo that can control them – but a bloody blanket reacting, I mean, how does that work!

Maybe it comes on automatically when you plug it in (I can imagine that being considered a feature not a bug) and that got triggered?

Yeah, I’ll have to experiment with the blanket settings. I wouldn’t want say an electric fire to come on in the middle of the night or something.
