Hi,

I seem to have set up my broadband, more by luck than judgement - but iChat wont video chat it keeps rejecting my ennd and the other users cam (on a pc)

I tried aMSN and am told the cam is ip-restrict-NAT, listeneing is false and get this message on linked help page

If you receive: IP-Restrict-NAT and you receive false in webcam wizard, that means your connection is firewalled. (does not send the IP)

If this is the case, you will need to open some ports for the webcam to use because they are currently blocked.

To do this, open your router web-based configuration (check router manual for details on this). Once you have the web-based configuration open, browse for a setting called "port forwarding" or "port range forwarding" or something similar to that. (This might be found under the advanced features for your router).

Now that you have the port forwarding page open, you will want to set the port forwarding range so that aMSN will be able to accept and send the webcam stream.
Here's an example of how you will set up your port forwarding:

Application: aMSN
Start: 6890
End: 6900
Protocol: Both(TCP & UDP)
IP: xxx.xxx.x.xxx
Enabled: X (Yes/True)

Note: xxx.xxx.x.xxx is the IP of your machine that you are trying to send / receive webcam

I have a netgear DG834G - how do I set this up ???

Any help apprecieated

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony

Go to apple menu > system prefs > network > ethernet or airport depending on the connection > tcp/ip. Note the router address. Open Safari and go to the IP address of the router, probably 192.168.0.1

Log into the router’s configuration page then click on services, click on add service, give it a name such as ichat, write in the correct ports, enter the IP address of your computer on the network, probably 192.168.0.2. Do this for each port range you need for ichat av.

5190 TCP : iChat file transfer
5222 TCP : iChat & Jabber messaging
5060 UDP : iChat AV session initialisation
5678 UDP : SNATMAP Server (not iChat related but if it’s blocked it may cause problems with iChat AV session initialisation)

Next, click on LAN Setup and add your computer into the list of reserved IP addresses, this is to make sure that it always gets the same IP address even when using DHCP to configure your network.

Basically the port has to be open and forwarded to one IP address, we just need to make sure that your computer always has that address.

Regards

Sam

Cheers Sam,

did what you said, but it says the first port 5190 is "Service Port number was defined by another service."

Also when setting the ip address it asks for computer name and device ???

I had previously set the Mac up in the access list for Wireless Station Access if that matters ??

Cheers

Tony

Hi Tony

Computer name is whatever you want to name it, MAC address can be entered automatically by clicking on one of the computers listed above the IP address entry box.

Hi Tony

It may already be in the services list. Once you’ve set up the services you then need to click on firewall rules, click add a new incoming firewall rule, choose a service from the list, point it to the right IP address and click apply. You’ll need to do this for each service.

It’s not particularly intuitive, most routers just let you define the firewall rules and port numbers but with netgear you have to define the services first then link those to a firewall rule.
