Hi Smuggers,

This is an odd one. I have an M1 Mac mini and far too many audio devices
connected, it seems. Eg Input lists 5 items (some virtual, like
Reincubate, which can use the phone mic). There's a couple of bluetooth
headsets that get used at different times, a Yeti Nano, built-in
speakers, Homepods...

Repeatedly (eg once a day) ALL of them vanish. System Prefs shows no
items whatsoever in either output or input. The built-in speakers
continue to work but no mic.

Restart fixes it but it's happening every day or two, randomly, so I'm
restarting five minutes before meeting after meeting.

I've run Disk Aid.

Any ideas? They're all either virtual (Reincubate, Krisp), USB (Yeti) or
Bluetooth (eg airpods max).

(I also have one listed called captionEd 16ch that I must have tried at
some point but can't for teh live of me work out how to remove!)

Cheers,

Jason

I wonder if Rogue Amoeba’s SoundSource might help? There is a free trial available. And they may be able to help with identifying the issue.

that's a good idea. I have Hijack but haven't set it up yet on the M1
(bit harder than on earlier Oss!)

Thanks,
J

Hi Jason,

In my Contacts the format is 077xx xxxxxx (with a space).

Good luck.

I use "Sound Source 5” (from Rogue Amoeba of Audio Hijack fame) which gives complete control over when and where sound inputs/outputs are used.

Yeah, it insists on only numbers (which is what I typed!) but thanks. I
put 07xxxxxxx

Very odd.

Anyway, they are now due tomorrow (despite an initial prediction of 8th
July!) so I guess I don't need to check when they're due for very long
(birthday present due by the 7th July haha).

Thanks,
Jason

Ah, I hadn't seen that though I've used a few of their products. At
least that will tell me whether they are actually not being detected at
all (and possibly remedy it without urgent restarts). Will look into it.

Cheers,
Jason
