SMUGgers
Do hope you can help a conundrum with my sister's iPhone 5.
I've attached some images to demo the problem too.
The Problem
1. When using the camera for photos/facetime etc, (regardless of the app) if she then puts the phone in her handbag without returning to the homescreen, when she next wakes the phone - the screen orientiation is wrong. Hence, she can't enter her PIN and the phone has to be reset.
2. If she switches app first, all is well.
The Genius (?!)
1. Took it to Apple Store Covent Garden. Chap said to reset the phone, restore from backup and try for a week. If problem persists, it's a hardware bug so they'll replace the phone (despite it being out of warranty.
2. She did that, and after a week of testing the problem remained.
3. Returned to Store but a different Genius. He has said the problem must be a corrupt file in her iCloud backup. He said to sync the device to her Mac (to save any contacts and photos and music) then reset the device, and setup with a new Apple ID and hence new iCloud account and storage etc. Then, to sync to her Mac to get all the files back.
Does Step 3 sound right?
It's just that it seems a messy and involved amount of work that iCloud should be there to prevent?
Furthermore, do you think it might fix the orientation issue?!? The chap said "there's no point getting a new phone as any restore from her current iCloud will do it to any iOS device" Really?!
More importantly, I assume that in setting up with a new Apple ID, she loses all the apps and purchases associated with her current one? How do I prevent that for her?
In short, I don't really understand what the guy has told her to do!!
Any help gratefully received folks....
Thanks
