Hello, earlier this afternoon I downloaded a trial version of pianoteq and as it wasn't showing up in logic I restarted my computer.  Since then I have been unable to start up.  I have tried starting safe mode, resetting the pram and then tried to boot from disk.  The only option available seems to be to use my original installation disk to re-install the system and hope I haven't lost anything.  Does this sound like new hard drive time?  My system has been freezing on and off for a couple of months even after I tried an erase install.

If I do get a new drive does anyone know a good reliable place/brand to buy?  I've seen 2 and 3tb ones for about £150 but I don't know enough about such things to know whether I'm getting a good product/deal!

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben

The freezing sounds like it could be a bad block on the drive yes. You could replace it with a seagate barracuda 2TB drive for around £80, with some later iMacs you have to download a program called HD Fan Control which supplies the drive temperature to the system and controls the fans accordingly.

Regards

Sam
