My son in law was given an iphone for his birthday. He likes it very much except for one thing: there does not appear to be a good Apple app for identifying birdsong. On his old phone, Android, he had an excellent app which recorded and named birds accurately. The two Apple apps he has tried are nothing like as good. Have Smuggers any suggestions that would help him? Virginia

I'd be interested to know what it was - in the meantime let me/us know
how he gets on with any of these

One seems to be a UK one (I imagine that can make a big difference!)

I’ve had Bird Song ID for quite a long time. Unlike some others you can make a 30 second recording. It’s been recently updated but I’ve not tried this update as yet. You can compare your recording against those on the app and it it gives a probability score.

I think it can get confused with background noise but the update may have got on top of this.

Tony

Thanks for posting this! I hadn’t even thought of such a thing - now I have 4 different apps downloaded and I can’t wait to go out and road test them!!! Brilliant.

I can second Bird Song ID - recently downloaded it and loving sitting in the garden and know which birds are all around. Blackbirds tend to dominate though!! I also recommend another 'new toy' - Picture This for identifying wild flowers (and garden flowers too) - recently learned 21 new wild flowers on a country walk!
