Migrating from to a new Mac

Morning all

I back up my MacBook Pro to an external SSD using Apple's software.

I realise that's not a clone, and so just wondering how I best ensure all my data and files (including One Drives and Apps and Utilities etc?) migrate to the new MacBook Neo I intend to replace this with in coming month or two?

I can't believe I simply restore the new machine from the drive et voila?!?!

Any tips to minimise headaches, appreciated!
