Good morning Smuggers

I have a late 2014 iMac (Retina 27inch OS Mojave) with 8GB of RAM. I’m considering  adding another 8GB of RAM – the attached screen shot indicates I can do this. If so, where do you recommend I buy the RAM?

Alternatively, I also have a 13” 2018 Mac Book Pro with 16GB RAM and Catalina  (Screen shot also attached). Would I be better off – instead of upgrading my iMac – connecting the laptop  (if I can) to the iMac and using the larger screen just as a monitor from the laptop for intensive processor use for things like video editing?

Thanks for any advice.
Derek

I’d add more memory to the iMac. I think it can take 4 8GB modules and if you do a lot of video editing spend £200 and get 32GB from Crucial.

The iMac will have a better graphics card than the laptop so video editing performance should be better. Go for an additional 16GB RAM from Crucial, it’s very cheap.

Thanks Sam – I ordered it from Crucial via Amazon – they’ll deliver tomorrow £85!

Cheers,
Derek

Hi Sam,
So I add the 16GB of RAM in addition to what I have, so I end up with a total of 24GB — is that correct?
Best wishes,
Derek
