Hi lovely people,

I got a notification at the weekend that my AirTag’s battery was low and would need replacing soon. I had an unopened pack of the required batteries so popped up the road and replaced it. When I next checked I was surprised to see that it now shows a red low battery and “Replace battery” and it still says the same today from 15 minutes ago.

Any ideas as to what is going on? (The pack says “Best before June 2024”)

Cheers,
Stephen

Hi,
Not sure if this is it or even accurate, but I read somewhere that some battery makers coat the batteries with a bitter tasting clear lacquer with a view to preventing children putting them in their mouths and swallowing them.
The air tags are apparently particularly sensitive to this and it can prevent the battery “Connecting”
Steve.

Thanks Steve - I had read that on Apple’s website but thought it would either work (if it didn’t have a coating) or not work at all if it did. I wasn’t expecting a low battery indication, but maybe it’s just struggling to get through the coating. I checked the pack and there is no reference to any coating so it’s a bit of a mystery. Suppose I’d better find the same Panasonic ones that were in the original.

Cheers,
Stephen
