Hi Smuggers,

Well, I'm back to commuting and in the meantime my rail company have created the most cumbersome way to buy tickets on the iPhone imaginable. I get a QR code for each route. It's all a muddle (with bonus points that if I try to retrieve it while there's no signal in a tunnel, it completely logs me out).

What I want to do is have a shortcut to quickly set the pdf they send me (or a screenshot) to my lock screen so I can sort it out and not be fiddling around at the gates. I can't seem to find one via google - anyone help with identifying an easy way to do this? (and no, it doesn't talk to Wallet but I'd rather use lock screen anyway)

cheers,
J

Could you paste the QR code or PDF into a note, then add that note to the Lock Screen?

In order to have some basic contact info on the lock screen on my iPad mini and iPhone in case I mislaid either, I created the info in Notes, duplicated the text in case part of it appeared under the time/date etc, took a screenshot, then set that as my lock screen image. Works fine.
I’ll send you a screenshot Jason privately if you’d like.

This is an improvement (thanks) but still more steps than I'd like... I'm off to hunt for a widget (that's the clue I needed) that simply shows my last screenshot or note when I swipe right from lock screen.

(and thanks for also chipping in Nick but this changes twice a day (each journey) so going into 'set as lock screen' is more complicated than this deserves).

thanks folks.

Please share any widget discovery Jason, if and when you find one you find one. Nick

Hi Jason,

I’ve written a small shortcut that would take a PDF as input from a Sharesheet and set it as your Lock Screen. Is that any use?

OK - I’ve never shared a shortcut before so hope this works. I think you may need iOS 15 to run it. Click the link and then accept and save in Shortcuts (I think that’s how it works!)

To use it, select an image or a one page PDF, share it and choose “Set Lock Screen” from the list. After a moment it will display the usual screen, tap set and you should be done. Let me know if it needs any tweaks and I’ll do my best. 😃

Hi Stephen

So far, like a dream (ie this morning). Thanks so much. It’s simpler at the gate and doesn’t leave a trail of very similar looking screenshots. I Can confirm if I use this on a screenshot then delete screenshot, it still works.

Thanks,

-Jason
