iPhone 3.1 and tethering

Hi all,

I have a friend who has enabled the tethering workaround on his iPhone 3GS running OS3.0.

He's considering upgrading to 3.1 but has heard that this can disable the tethering. He's asked me to ask if anyone here has a friend who's upgraded and kept the tethering. Anyone?
