I’d appreciate any advice on this, please

I’m part of the Horsham District Older Peoples Forum, which holds quarterly public meetings across the Horsham district, usually in Village halls.

We usually have around 30 attendees and also screen the meeting via Zoom for those who can’t attend in person. We usually use my M1 MacBook Pro (sometimes someone else's Windows laptop) with a Blue microphone placed near it on the table, and auxiliary speakers plugged into a portable projector to show those attending via Zoom, along with any PowerPoint presentations, etc.

The challenge is that those on Zoom can’t always hear our guest speakers or the audience's questions.

Could anyone advise whether we can use clip-on portable microphones, such as the DJI Mic 3 Wireless Microphone Dual Transmitter & Receiver Kit? These are usually seen being used with mobile phones or cameras for YouTube videos, etc. Could we use these microphones with a laptop?  My idea is to give the guest speaker the clip-on microphone so the sound is heard through the auxiliary speakers for the in-room audience and also on Zoom. A second portable microphone could be given to audience members when they ask a question.

Would I need a different microphone system?

Any advice will be appreciated

The mic will come with a USB transceiver, ideally get one with USB-C for the M1 MBP. Beyond that, it’s just seen as a USB audio device by the system so as long as the mic’s in wireless range of the transceiver then it’ll work. You can select in Zoom which audio is routed through which source

Any old wireless mic should work fine, I’ve used a basic £30 one from Amazon supporting a series of hybrid zoom meetings/in-person talks for the Sussex Industrial Architecture Society in Blatchington Mill. There’s no broadband there so we have to hotspot off someone’s phone, even then it works well

and if you can't get these, I have ended up running academic conferences by using my iPhone as the remote mic (this would mean running it off the Mac, not the Windows machine). People are actually better at speaking into a phone you hand them than they are mics...the iPhone does a great job (I also used it as the main mic, simply sitting on the desk in front of the speakers).

Cheers,

J
