HomePod update and intercom?

Evening all

I'm a big fan of our 2 HomePods (in stereo) and was excited by the Intercom features of iOS 14.1. 

We're all updated, but I see absolutely no options to use it within the Home app. Others on Reddit saying the same, others have options and icons for setup.

Anybody got any light to shed?

I wonder if they need to be in different rooms? Have you got two paired a few feet from each other? I can see why it wouldn't offer intercom when you can hear the person's voice just as easily (I have this set up so will have a look). In fact if you did have one elsewhere, you wouldn't want it playing your message back a few feet away...

I've updated my Homepods, ad don't see Intercom either. Can't be bothered to move one across the house but if we get a mini at some point I'll find out if I'm right about this

After more digging around, it seems Intercom to iPhone is a 14.2 feature (in beta) and 14.1 is HomePod to HomePod - hence not if they're in stereo in the same room!

I'm looking forward to it!

It has me tempted by HomeKit and a few lightbulbs around the house that Siri can control.

Any tips? They seem pricey, especially when they need replacing?!!?
