I would absolutely recommend you having a look at http://www.zagg.com/ I know their accessories are a bit pricey but a case combined with an Invisible Shield is the ultimate protection you will ever need. Invisible Shield is very easy to install and there are plenty of how-to videos to walk you through on their website.

How scratch proof is the iPhone screen? I mean, it seems a shame to cover a Retina display with an extra film of plastic?!?!

Should I expect hairline scratches from my pocket?

I've had an el cheapo screen protector on it since I bought it which is now horribly scuffed and makes the screen horrible to read. I just wonder if it's worth removing and having a punt without one at all!?!

FWIW I've always had a case for my iPhones but never a screen cover.
It rattles around in various pockets and always comes up smiling.

I got a free Apple case for my iPhone 4 two years ago and it has been great,
I would not hesitate to buy the same brand next time - see:

You might consider it expensive but in my opinion it is good value for the
money.

It does not protect the front glass. As a precaution when I put my iPhone
in my pocket I always put the front glass towards my body and never put
anything else in that pocket which might scratch it. In two years of
everyday use I have had no scratches.

Looks similar to mine which was £2.99 from Amazon. Agree with the
advice about how to keep your phone in your pocket.

I have had my iPhone 4 for 18 months and treat it fairly roughly - it goes in my pocket without any screen protection. Amazingly it does not have a scratch on it. I did drop it and cracked the corner of the screen but that is a different story...

This may be of interest; my nephew dropped his iPhone 4 and cracked the screen.  My brother took it into the Apple Store in Brighton to see how much it would cost to get repaired.  They exchanged it for a refurbished iPhone 4 for £80.00.

I have an iPhone 4 case made from D3O

I've dropped it numerous times and there's not a scratch on it.

Is D30 the fabric like polymer that instantly hardens on impact? As featured on a certain BBC 2 venture capitalist show?
