Hi Smuggers,

So I'm very happy with my new Mac Mini M1 except for one odd glitch. I
have three monitors:
- one via Thunderbolt adaptor to DVI [Sam, this is one of the two Apple
monitors you soid me about ten years ago!]
- one via Thunderbolt adaptor to VGA
- one via USB DisplayLink DVI

Frequently (I think after sleep) the DVI one drops the connection. To
get it back, I can either unplug/replug the adaptor or restart.
Occasionally, putting it to sleep and waking helps but it's not
reliable.

I'm hoping it isn't a hardware thing but it's so reliably fixed by those
two methods that I suspect it's a cheap adaptor/OS level.

In the Olden Times, there was an option to 'detect monitors' in the
Displays sys pref but I can't find anything similar now.

Any suggestions to avoid me restarting once or twice a day and bring
this monitor back? I haven't yet tried swapping plugs around as all the
cables etc are really hard to get to and I have a lot of backache...

Cheers,

Jason

Yeah, it must be partial adaptor issue which is a bit annoying;)

The DisplayLink one is absolutely fine. I just don't have enough places to put three more up or I probably would;)

cheers,
Jason

Alas, can't speak with M1 experience, but in the past I've certainly found the adaptors to be the issue causing connecting and glitching issues. 'El Cheapo' via Amazon tended to always fail me, but branded did the trick, (buy cheap buy twice).

We are talking about a fiver vs...lots. Normally I would agree with you;)

Thanks,

Hehe, I know the feeling.

My current fiver dongle is unreliable, but if I tap it three times, it tends to burst in to life!
 ;)
