Using Terminal to attempt to fix Handbrake

Hi

I wonder if anyone is familiar with the strategies you seem to have to employ to get Handbrake to continue to copy a DVD onto a drive? Since updating to Catalina, Handbrake has stopped being able to copy DVDs. (It may, of course, have absolutely nothing to do with Catalina).

I have been trying to install "Homebrew" which I am told will solve the problem. In doing this I had to run commands with Terminal - something I'm almost completely unfamiliar with. I did manage to install something via Terminal a year or two ago which solved the Handbrake problem. This time I get so far and Terminal asks for a password. I don't know what password this would be. It doesn't seem to be the user password for the iMac.

Can anyone advise?

I'm not on Catalina but had already found Handbrake didn't cope with modern encryption too well.

I think it was Sam who suggested MakeMKV; not sure about Catalina support.

I ended up buying https://www.macdvdripperpro.com//faq.html - currently on sale at 25 dollars.

There are also many people who swear VLC can do this but I've never got it to work;)
