I’ve lost a chapter of book I’m working on. I must have pressed something. How do I retrieve it? I have an Elements external disk. It also should be saved to Dropbox. Simple instructions would be much appreciated.

Hello Virginia,

If it’s an application and a file system that supports it (your Mac storage will, but some don’t) then you can get it back from a previous version. This is supported by all Apple’s own applications and many 3rd party applications too. There’s a video here that demonstrates it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjF_gZN8IGQ

Also, I believe Dropbox saves previous edits of a document if you access your file via Dropbox.com and then you should be able to retrieve that lost page.

Cheers,

Stephen

Hi Virginia
Are you creating your book in Adobe Elements – or is that the name of an external disk, or something ?
Cheers,
Derek

If the file’s in Dropbox, go to the Dropbox website and see if you can revert to a previous version of that file

I’m creating it in Scrivener.  Elements is name of external disk.

I’m sure this is a long shot but are you using Time Machine? If so you should be able to rollback to an earlier version of the Scrivener file.

If not using Time Machine maybe a reason for considering it?

Tony
