Hello.

When I tether my iphone to my imac with a lightning usb cable I keep getting a finder dialogue box which looks like the attached picture.  Photos is able to see the phone and take images off of it but I cannot open the iphone in the finder in order to change sync settings or anything like that and so I cannot open it in music to sync audio files and playlists.  I have an ipad which I have managed to tether successfully to the imac and which opens up immediately in the finder window.  Any ideas why the iphone hangs like this?

Many thanks,

Jonathan Brady

This is presumably on Big Sur?

Have you restarted both devices? (forgive if it's patronising but always the first step)

Cheers,
J

Hi.

Ha, yes that has been done. I have erased and restored the iPhone from an iCloud backup but have yet to re-tether it. Hopefully that will solve the issue. Will come back to the group if not.

Thanks,

Jonathan Brady

Can I clarify what you mean by 'tether '? I took it to mean that you
were using it to access mobile data, but do you just mean to provoke the
'trust this computer?' dialogue?

iMazing (which has a demo, I think) might help provoke the system into
talking to the phone; It always asks me to unlock/trust the computer. My
guess is that something got stalled.

I would also try different cable if you have that option.

Cheers,

Jason

Ah yes. Not data tethering, I meant simply connecting the phone to the Mac with a usb cable.
