Hi Folks,

My brother is an 84 year old member of SMUG. I live in Manhattan and
have always used PCs. Because he loved his early Mac and hated his
short stint with PCs, I bought him an iMac for his birthday a couple
years ago. Well, he seems to be taking a long time to get used to
it. Not being a Mac person myself, I've begged him to get some help
from your SMUG meetings. Instead he tells me of frustrating hours he
has spent trying to figure out what seems to be a basic function that
one of you guys could have fixed in a minute.

In order for him to get to more of your meetings and gain from what he
says are very useful and productive presentations, I wonder if you
guys have thought about video broadcasting your meetings using the
free service called UStream. I broadcast my 50th high school reunion
from a hotel using this service and there is a text chat for feedback
from viewers - - a great way to get more members to participate in
your meetings.

Check out http://www.ustream.tv/ to see how easy it is to set up. I
would be glad to help you out. My suggestion would be to use a
regular camcorder connected to a Mac with a firewire so you could
zoom, pan and tilt like a regular TV production. Then put a mike on
your podium. UStream also lets you embed code in your own web page so
the video shows there. I broadcast family events on my own web page
so distant relatives can see birthdays and reunions. It's really
quite easy to set up.

Well, just an idea. I guess I'll have to buy an iMac to help my bro'
out.....LOL
