Caching Changes

I updated some of the caching code today. I went ahead and pushed it
since I think that everything's working pretty well. However, it's
always possible that I missed something, so let me know if you see any
problems.

While I was at it, I added two Python scripts for testing:
tests/gitlib_test.py and tests/caching.py. These use docs/gitlib.txt
and docs/caching.txt respectively for doctests. The gitlib.txt file has
been there for a while, but caching.txt is new. It's not perfect, but
it's a start.
