transcription project with Roscoe Mitchell

To the members of SMT Improvisation:

I'm writing on behalf of Roscoe Mitchell, composition professor at Mills College and founder of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Prof. Mitchell is seeking assistance with a transcription project that will be of interest to many of us.

The project involves transcribing short improvised pieces from Prof. Mitchell's two Conversations CDs (vol. 1 and vol. 2, both featuring Craig Taborn and Kikanju Baku). The completed transcriptions will then be orchestrated for an upcoming performance by the BBC Scottish Symphony, with Prof. Mitchell as soloist.  This is a unique opportunity to participate in the creation of new orchestral repertoire that crosses all boundaries between concert music, experimental music, improvised music, and jazz.
