I found in The Star, a survey carried out by Pemandu on the usage of English in schools. One of the questions is as below.

"Do you think teaching English in other subjects would reduce the importance of Bahasa Malaysia as our national language?"

Do you notice a flaw in the sentence construction? It looks like the guy designing the survey himself have some problem with his English.

Setahu aku mana ada jawatan macam tu. Tak practical, sebab semua orang tulis surat dan berkomunikasi dgn semua org. Tapi kalau annual report atau atau document2 strategic yg lain, adalah process utk memastikan error macam tu tak keluar.

Anyway, I just received a flyer sent by AirAsia helping Pemandu distribute that survey to the mass. The single question was differently worded and the errors (which is contained in the Star publication) is no longer there. I guess people pointed out that subtle but big mistake.

Assalammualaikum, baru baca.
When I was in Mida as protocol officer, one of my duties was to translate scripts, text, communications, contracts etc from Malay to English and vice versa.
Ministers especially hv problems in their script writings bec their press secretary is normally from the Malay medium, so I had to prepup their text structure, grammar, presentation and contents.
I strongly believe all subjects can be and should be taught in English, mainly because the company entrusted with making translations of books from English to Malay have not managed to keep up with translating the existing books but are far behind on technical, scientific and technological terms, not to say lagging behind on new publications.
This is however is only one problem.
There are other problems such as publishers and proof reading of their books before it goes to market and the masses. The teaching fraternity also have to gearup ie to fully teach in English. There are incidences where teachers and/or lecturers who insist on teaching in Malay or even Chinese depending on their audience.
Of the problems may be unending at times but the education ministry has to put its foot down and go for all ie either all Malay or all English, no two ways about that, just stop being fickle minded and also pity parents and students who are at the mercy of flip flop decision makers.
